Officer Collins was involved in a high-speed chase in the south area on April 19, 1972 when he was thrown from his motorcycle as it hit a concrete abutment. His body was found about 200 feet away from his motorcycle. The vehicle he was chasing was found about four blocks from the scene of the accident. Officer Collins was 24 years old and had been an officer for about 18 months.
